Rideau Eco-Literacy Center!

Rideau Eco-Literacy Center logo

Drop by and check out Merrickville Library’s new Eco-Literacy Center!  These centers have launched at five area public libraries along the Rideau waterway.  A partnership of the Rideau Roundtable and the Merrickville, Perth & District, Rideau Lakes, Smiths Falls and Westport Public Libraries, the mission of Rideau Eco-Literacy Centers is to cultivate ecological literacy for children through transformational hands-on experiences in library learning forums, and in recreational play-and-learn activities on the shores and waterways of the Rideau River system.

Take a look at our selection of books on wetlands and wetland wildlife!  Make a craft or do an activity sheet!

“We want all children in our community to experience and understand how nature sustains life”, said Peter Au, Chair of the Rideau Roundtable. “The goal of the Eco-Literacy Centers is to establish information hubs and offer learning experiences at the five regional public libraries, and build an eco-literacy network connecting schools, agencies and non-profits providing ecology education and services throughout the area”.
