10th Anniversary Open House (Sat, Oct. 13, 10:30 am – 3:30 pm, cake-cutting at 2pm):

The Library Board is hosting an Open House to celebrate this 10-year milestone and to express our appreciation to the Lions’ Club! Did you know that the Lions’ Club was the driving force behind our beautiful library building? It’s true! They took the initiative to purchase the building from the Recreational Canoe Association and donate it to the town as the new library. The Open House will run all day, but please join us at 2:00 as we celebrate the Lions and our anniversary with cake! We look forward to seeing you.

New! MAG Art Workshops for Kids (starts Sat, Oct. 27, 1:00 pm):

This season our Brenda Carter Memorial Workshops for Kids will be offering something new. Gloria Stowell is partnering with the Merrickville Artists’ Guild (MAG) for a series of 4 “Hero”-themed art workshops for 8 – 14 years old! Superheroes and heroes of legend are the inspiration for these workshops – each with a different MAG artist. Over the course of the series (2 sessions in fall, 2 in winter/spring), kids will be introduced to a variety of art techniques and will create their own pieces to take home. Our October session is Superhero Silhouettes with painter Mary Loos. These are free workshops, but registration is required (deadline: Oct. 14). Contact the library for more information.

Tech Club (Sat, Oct. 13, 10:30 am):

Our next Tech Club is Oct. 13! Join us as we test engineering concepts with building toys and learn some basic programming with our Code & Go Mouse, Ozobot, etc. Fun for school-aged kids with an interest in technology.  Tech Club includes our LEGO Club.

Off the Shelf!  (Mon, Oct. 15, 7:00 pm):

Off the Shelf continues to entertain with touching and humorous readings for adults. This month will feature some Thanksgiving-themed readings – as well as local author Claire Smith sharing some selections from her memoir.  Join us for literary gems and light refreshments.

Halloween StoryTime! (Sat, Oct 20, 10:30 am):

The library will be putting the “BOO” into Books with a Saturday morning Halloween StoryTime (stories, rhythm instruments & lots of audience participation and a snack) at 10:30. Fun for toddlers to Gr. 1. Wear your costume and we’ll use the green screen to create a personalized Halloween photo – they’re a great (& free) keepsake.

BabyTime (Contact Library for times):

Our BabyTime program for parents and babies 0 – 12 months will be starting up again in October. Join us for songs, rhymes, and stories with your little one, and sharing & socializing with other parents. Contact the library for dates/times.
And Don’t Forget:

StoryTime (Fridays, 10ish):

Toddlers and preschoolers are welcome at our drop-in StoryTime for stories, songs, rhymes, rhythm instruments, & a simple craft. It’s a fun way to promote early literacy, listening, and motor skills – and to spend time with other kids and parents.

LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 – 12 noon):

Our drop-in LEGO Club (for ages 4 & up) continues on Saturday mornings between 10 and noon.
