TD Summer Reading Club Is Here!:

Calling all kids to the TD Summer Reading Club for school-aged kids (sponsored by the TD Financial Group)! This summer’s Club is all about “Feeding Your Passions”. Got a passion for books? Join and get a ticket for our summer prize draws for every book you read! And our summer Crafts and other Activities will feed your passion to make stuff and have fun. You can do the TD Summer Reading Club as an independent reading program – or come for any of our activities.
Note to Parents: Summer reading programs have been shown to prevent “brain drain” by keeping up literacy skills over the summer – they encourage kids to read for pleasure and develop the reading habit.
For more information – or to register, please contact the library (613-269-3326 / merrickville_library@bellnet.ca) or visit our website: http://www.merrickvillelibrary.ca.

Reading Club MakerSpace (Thursdays, 2:00 pm):

Join our Thursday afternoon makerspace at 2:00 (starts July 5) for a variety of activities for school-aged children. Discover what you are passionate about while we explore new skills – like learning magic tricks, finger knitting and other textile crafts – and make cool stuff – from fashions to marble runs. Contact the Library to register.

And there’s more!:

New – Tech Club (starts Sat, July 7 at 10:30 am):

Got a passion for technology? The Library’s new “Tech Club” will get school-aged kids engaged with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects in a fun and interactive way. Join us this summer to explore, build, and learn with our high (ozobot, makey-makey, osmo and more) and low (k’nex, LEGO, magnets, & more) tech. Note: Can’t make it on July 7? Contact the Library to let us know you’re interested!

French Club (Wednesdays in July, 6:30 pm, starts July 4):

French Club for kids is back in July. Join us for games and activities en français. Kids can also check out French books as part of the Summer Reading Club. Thanks to Colleen and Marie-Josee for running this club. (Note: children must have some fluency in French).

Movie Making! (starts Thurs, July 5, 3:30 pm):

Got a passion to be in front of—or behind– the camera? Our Summer Drama group will be making their own videos this year. We’ll be directing, filming and starring in short videos – and learning about editing and special effects. For ages 10 & up.

MACY (Merrickville Art Club for Youth):

Join Artists from the Merrickville Artists Guild as they share their passion for art and photography in these hands-on workshops for ages 12 & up! Contact the Library for dates.

LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 – 12 noon):

Indulge your passion for building with LEGO on Saturday mornings between 10 and noon.

StoryTime (Fridays, 10ish):

StoryTime for ages 6 & under (and a parent/caregiver) continues through the summer! It’s a fun way to prepare for starting school this fall.

And For Adults (and Young Adults)…

Make Your Own Pendant (Thurs, July 26 & Aug 2, 6:00 – 8:00 pm):

Kenna McCall, lapidary artist and metalsmith from TerrAdore Jewelry is offering a 2-part “Make your own Pendant” workshop for anyone 16 years and over. Design and construct your very own pendant from gemstones or found objects set in polymer clay. You can bring your own item to set – but gemstones or other items will be available at the workshop.  Instruction, guidance, mentoring and humour compliments of Kenna.
For ages 16+ (teens & adults).  Spaces are limited; please contact the library by July 20 to register.

Note: There will be a $5 workshop fee to cover the cost of materials.
