The Library Board will be celebrating Ontario Public Library Week with an Open House! The Board would love to take this opportunity to get your input – in addition to showing off the library and collections. Drop by on Oct. 14 to share your thoughts, check out what’s new, or just sample the refreshments. We look forward to seeing you.
More Ease, Less Stress: Essential Self-Care (Thurs, Oct 5, 7:00 – 9:00 pm):
Shula Ber Levtov, MA, RSW, RYT and Ellie McMillan, E-RYT are back with another free workshop teaching stress resilience and self-care to help you bounce back from stressful situations instead of lingering in a depleted and worn out state. Learn to use simple practices and essential oils to soothe and nourish your nervous system, balance your immune system, as well as ways to incorporate them in your everyday life. Contact the Library to register.
Computer Coding for Kids (Wednesdays, Oct. 11 – Nov. 27, 7:00 pm):
Computer programming is a hot skill for young people. Drew Avis will be running an 8-week course for beginners and more advanced coders – for kids and teens age 10 and up (interested adults are also welcome). Beginners will work on creating a project in Scratch with Drew. More advanced coders can join in or bring in their own projects for assistance and mentoring.

Local artist Gloria Stowell is starting a new series of free monthly art workshops for older kids and teens (ages 8+). This month the group will experiment with oil pastels to create a ‘Tiger in the Grass’. Limited spaces – contact the Library to register.
Off the Shelf! (Mon, Oct. 16, 7:00 pm):
Calling all armchair travelers! Off the Shelf will be enjoying some entertaining readings about foreign lands this month. Join us for literary gems and light refreshments.
Halloween Fun! (Sat, Oct 28):
The library will be putting the “BOO” into Books with a Halloween StoryTime (stories, rhythm instruments & lots of audience participation) at 9:30 am at the Merrickville Daycare, in connection with their big book sale. And, in the afternoon, come by the Library in your Halloween costume and we’ll take your picture in front of our green screen and add a matching theme background. We took some awesome photos last Halloween – they’re a great (free) keepsake. Contact the library for more info.
BabyTime (Thursdays, 1:00 pm):
Our BabyTime program for parents and babies 0 – 12 months continues in October. Join us for songs, rhymes, and stories with your little one, and sharing & socializing with other parents.
StoryTime (Fridays, 10ish):
Toddlers and preschoolers are welcome at our drop-in StoryTime for stories, songs, rhymes, & rhythm instruments, and a simple craft. It’s a fun way to promote early literacy skills, listening skills, and motor skills in a fun and relaxed setting – and to spend time with other kids and parents. Our October themes are: Fall, Thanksgiving, and 2 weeks of Halloween fun. New StoryTimers are always welcome!
LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 – 12 noon):
Our drop-in LEGO Club (for ages 4 & up) continues on Saturday mornings between 10 and noon.
Friday Movies at the Library (Fridays, 2:00 pm):
Our afternoon movies for adults continue. This month we’ll be walking on the wrong side of the law with some quirky films about hit men, con artists, secret tapes, and murder. Our Friday movie will be cancelled on Oct. 27.
