The Library has a great summer reading club for kids starting in July. For more information – or to register, please contact the library (email@example.com / 613-269-3326).
TD Summer Reading Club Is Here!:
Calling all kids to the TD Summer Reading Club for school-aged kids (sponsored by the TD Financial Group)! This summer’s Club is going to “Celebrate Canada”! Join and get a ticket for our summer prize draws for each book you read! The TD Summer Reading Club can be done as an independent reading program – or come for any of our activities.
Reading Club Activities (Thursdays, 2:00 pm):
The library will be running a variety of activities over the summer. Join us for Thursday afternoon activities at 2:00 (starts July 6). Activities will include: building model beaver dams, creating art in the style of Ted Harrison, making a native craft, games and outdoor activities, and more. These activities are open to all school-aged children.
Note to Parents: Summer reading programs have been shown to prevent “brain drain” by keeping up literacy skills over the summer – they encourage kids to read for pleasure and develop the reading habit. Contact the Library for more information.
And there’s more!:
Art Outside the Box!: (July 6, 17, 24 at 7:00 pm – July 13 at 2:00 pm):
Arlene McKibbon will be offering (free) art instruction in a variety of media this month. Experiment with art techniques and enter your work in the Merrickville Agricultural Fair. We will be including one session in our Thursday afternoon Reading Club Activities (July 13). Come be a part of it!
Story Walk (Fri, July 7, 10 am):
Get out into nature AND enjoy stories! Join us for a Story Walk with Laura Lee. This will replace our regular StoryTime on July 7 – and will be fun for toddlers, preschool & primary grade kids.
French Club (Wednesdays in July, 6:30 pm, starting July 12):
French Club for kids is back in July. Join us for games and activities in French. Kids can also check out French books as part of the Summer Reading Club. Thanks to Colleen,Marie-Josee, & Melanie for running this club. (Note: children must have some ability to speak French).
Makey-Makey “Journey Across Canada” (Thurs, July 20, 6:30 pm):
Kids (age 7+) can have fun learning about circuits as we build and test a “cross-Canada” trail/obstacle course using a Makey-Makey (google it). This is a great activity for kids who like to build and experiment with technology. Contact the library to find out more!
LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 – 12 noon):
Canada’s next generation of builders are welcome to join us for our drop-in LEGO Club on Saturday mornings between 10 and noon.
StoryTime (Fridays, 10ish):
StoryTime for ages 6 & under (and a parent/caregiver) continues through the summer! It’s a fun way to prepare for starting school this fall.
