What’s happening in November

For Adults:
Book Launch (Sat, Nov. 19, 3:00 pm):
Merrickville author Dan Black is launching his second book with co-author John Boileau “Too Young to Die” tells the gripping true stories of underage Canadian youth – some as young as 14 – who served during WWII. It is the much anticipated follow-up to his first book “Old Enough To Fight” (2013). We are excited that Dan is holding his launch and book signing at the Library – featuring readings from the book and a slideshow. Signed copies will be available for purchase. Dan’s last book launch was standing room only, so come early! Can’t make it? Dan will have another book signing at the Merrickville Book Emporium on Nov. 26.

Off the Shelf! (Mon, Nov. 21, 7:00 pm):
Off the Shelf continues its literary travels in Nov. Last month we enjoyed some humourous stories about uncooperative boats, outrageous hotel requests, and some real life travel adventures from one of our readers. Join us for literary gems and light refreshments – who knows where you’ll end up!

Friday Movies at the Library (Fridays at 2:00 pm):
Our afternoon movies for adults continue every week in Nov. We’ve got some great titles planned – see the list here.

NEW!  Art Workshops for Adults:
Local artist Gloria Stowell, who’s been leading the library’s art workshops for kids (see below), would like to start up Art Workshops for Adults in the new year. If you would be interested in participating, please contact the library.

For Kids:
Juice Jam (Sat, Nov. 12, 10:30 am):
We’re excited to welcome Polly Beach back for another Juice Jam. Come sing along with classic children’s tunes and play along with a variety of rhythm instruments – plus juice and a snack! Musical fun for ages 7 & under.

Art Workshop for Kids (Sat, Nov. 26, 1:00 pm):
Last month we painted colourful Kandinsky-inspired Autumn landscapes on canvas. This month our Brenda Carter Memorial Art Workshop series will finish with Kandinsky and touch on the Fauvists as Gloria leads the group in painting a colourful ‘zany’ portrait. This free workshop is for older kids and teens, but registration is required.

After-School Youth Group (Wednesdays, 4:00):
The library is the place to be Wednesdays after school! Kids are welcome to join us for Drama Club and other activities, use the computers, hang with friends – and even do homework.

StoryTime (Fridays, 10(ish)) & LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 – 12 noon):
These programs continue in November. New kids are always welcome!

Read to Every Kid Challenge:
Help pick Leeds & Grenville’s favourite picture book! Read this year’s selection of 10 storybooks with your kids and have them vote for their favourite. Borrow the set of books from the library and enjoy while you build early literacy skills! The challenge continues to January.
