Summer Reading Club!

TD Summer Reading Club Is Here!Summer Reading Club poster

Calling all kids to the TD Summer Reading Club for school-aged kids (sponsored by the TD Financial Group)!  This summer’s Club is going “Wild”! Join and get a ticket for our summer prize draws for each book you read! The TD Summer Reading Club can be done as an independent reading program – or come for any of our activities.

Summer reading programs have been shown to prevent “brain drain” by keeping up literacy skills over the summer – they encourage kids to read for pleasure and develop the reading habit. Contact the Library for more information about our Reading Club.

Reading Club Activities (Thursdays, 2:00 pm):

The library will be running a variety of activities over the summer. Join us for Thursday afternoon activities at 2:00 (starts July 7). Activities will include: a Brenda Carter Memorial Art Workshop for Kids with Gloria & Kathy (July 14), an interpretive Nature Hike with Andrea “The Bug Lady” (July 28), and other nature crafts and maker activities. These activities are open to all school-aged children.

Summer Youth Theatre (starts July 4, 6:30 pm):

Got the acting bug? Join our summer play (for ages 10-15) and develop your acting skills with Mary Kate & Susan! Our Summer Drama group will be rehearsing a short play through the summer to be performed in late August. This humorous and fast-paced play is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Pericles”, written for young players, and has princes, princesses, villains, sailors, birth & death, romance, evil schemes, sword-fighting, and storms at sea! There are up to 15 roles of various sizes. Interested? Come find out more at a read-through on Mon, July 4 at 7:00 pm – or contact the Library. Thanks to Theatre Night in Merrickville for supporting this program.

Rocket Building (July 20-21, 6:30 pm):

Kids (age 8+) will build a model rocket in this 2-day activity, then come launch them on Sat, July 23. This is a great activity for kids who like to build and experiment with technology. Kids must register for this activity no later than July 16, and there is a cost of $5/child for materials. Thanks to Allan for being our head rocketeer!

French Club (Wednesdays in July, 6:30 pm):

French Club for kids is back in July. Join us for games and activities in French. Kids can also check out French books as part of the Summer Reading Club. Thanks to Colleen, Marie-Josee, and Cheryl for running this club.
(Note: children must have some ability to speak French).

Learn to Code (starts Thurs, July 14, 6:30 pm):

Learn Javascript at our Computer Coding workshops (for older kids & teens). Contact the library for details. Thanks to Drew for his programming expertise.

LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 – 12 noon):

Go wild building with LEGO on Saturday mornings between 10 and noon.

StoryTime (Fridays, 10ish):

StoryTime for ages 6 & under (and a parent/caregiver) continues through the summer! It’s a fun way to prepare for starting school this fall.
